Animech worked on a project for the Swedish med-tech company OssDsign. They create custom made skull implants that help the body regenerate tissue around trauma affected areas. The customer wanted to visualize real cases where their product had been used, to show the flexibility of their implants. To reach a bigger market, they opted for a realtime WebGL solution.

The challenge on this job was cleaning up and optimizing tomographically scanned skulls, and making them look nice, while not breaking the budget. We ended up with a pipeline where we automatically reduced and UV-mapped the skulls, then brought them in to Substance Painter using a custom template. There, we would bake normal and AO details from the original scanned model. We could then fix apparent issues by using Painter’s tools. This workflow proved very cost effective, and reached a high enough visual quality to satisfy the customer.

I was responsible for all 3D work on this project, from setting up pipelines to creating the final assets.
