Hjältevadshus is a Swedish house manufacturer, who hired Animech to create an interactive configurator. They wanted their customers to visually see all of their options: houses, layouts, colors, window sizes, trimming thickness, stair types, balconies, and more. With this online house configurator, you can view all of this instantly in your browser.

One of the biggest challenges on this project was to set up an efficient workflow for asset creation. Since every house is deeply configurable, we couldn’t possibly create finished combinations by hand. After many iterations, we ended up separating everything we could reuse into different assets. That means that the house models themselves only really contain the walls, roof, and trimmings. All of the doors, windows, balconies, and so on are placed during runtime.

I was responsible for all the 3d work on this project. As such, I was heavily involved in organizing and setting up the asset pipeline. I also made all of the models, textures, materials and lighting for the application.

You can play around with the configurator over at Hjältevadshus’ website. While you’re at it, why not buy a house?
