Animech has continued to work with bathroom manufacturer INR. After first creating their shower configurator, work began on the new furniture configurator. In it, the customer can build their dream bathroom. There are many different commodes, mirrors, faucets, basins, handles and accessories to choose from.

Compared to the shower configurator, a completely new feature is products with built-in lighting. For the most part, we solved this by adding what we called lightplanes – the opposite of shadowplanes. Basically, we use a white-orange plane with a radial gradient for the alpha, then we blend it additively. The radial gradient makes the material reusable, since we can adjust the topology or the UVs of the plane to shape the light how we want. For some models though, lightplanes weren’t enough. For the top drawers, we needed to add real-time lights, since the drawers needed to open and close.

I was responsible for the 3D work on this application. It was both challenging and fun to break down the products into smaller components, ready to be used for the procedural builders. I made the models, materials, and worked closely with developers to make sure everything came together properly. You can visit INR’s site and try the furniture builder for yourself.
